Virtually all my later art can be traced back to my exploration of abstract expression and my decades of graphic design work. Abstract expressionists, specifically the color field artists, captured my passion early in my development. The colors, shapes and texture push visual art to its simplest elements. What appears to be so simple is actually rich and complex.

Mark Rothko, Clyfford Still, Robert Motherwell, Helen Frankenthaler and Jackson Pollock inspired me then and now. The surfaces of my ceramic art borrow heavily from my earlier discoveries made painting abstract canvases. Years later, brush strokes, drips, puddles and scrubbed surfaces have evolved from painting to glazing.
