Paper Clay slab and black glaze washes, cone 5, approximate size: 3.125w x 15.75h inches, frame: 7.25w x 20.0h inches, hanging wire.
How are they made? Using a digital photo taken of an item, I create a black & white high contrast image. I alter/add design elements and text. A film negative is created to expose a UV printing plate. The print plate is impressed into a very thin sheet of the clay. By adding washes of glaze into the impression, I can reveal the image. The paper-thin clay slab is fired in the kiln and mounted and displayed in shadow box frames.
Not all ceramic art belongs on a shelf ... sometimes it needs a frame.
