This artwork was part of the Ceci N'est Pas Du Papier exhibition (January 13 - March 23, 2024) at Baltimore Clayworks.

How are they made? Using a digital photo taken of an item, I create a black & white high contrast image. I alter/add design elements and text. A film negative is created to expose a UV printing plate. The print plate is impressed into a very thin sheet of the clay. By adding washes of glaze into the impression, I can reveal the image. The paper-thin clay slab is fired in the kiln and mounted and displayed in shadow box frames.
Not all ceramic art belongs on a shelf ... sometimes it needs a frame.
