What is a Tondo plate? Tondo - a Renaissance term for a circular painting or relief.
These small plates are inspired by the circular Tondo paintings of theRenaissance - but with modern approach to the artwork. I think of the rim of the plate as the frame for the inner ceramic art image.
The plates are all made from a single ball of clay. A disk is thrown on the wheel. Then the image is created in the center. The rim is then pulled and shaped to mimic a traditional picture frame.
Stoneware: 7.75 dia x 2.0h, Cone 6 fired. This is food safe, but made to be displayed. The reverse foot ring has holes for a hanging wire.
